A national information and awareness seminar on competition law and policy in West Africa is being held in Dakar from 10 to 12 March 2026
The opening of the proceedings was chaired by Seydina Ababacar Sadikh NDIAYE, Secretary General of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Also present were Amadou TCHAMBOU, Resident Representative of the Commission of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) in Senegal, and Amaury HOSTE, Acting Head of Cooperation at the Delegation of the European Union to Senegal.
This capacity-building meeting for Senegal’s economic operators, consumers and national competition bodies is organised by the WAEMU Commission. It receives support from the technical assistance team of the West Africa component of the Support Programme for Competition and Consumer Product Safety (PACoSPro).
It aims to deepen the understanding of Community competition legislation among private-sector stakeholders and the government officials responsible for implementing it, in order to support the better functioning of the common market.
This seminar follows the one held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, from 24 to 26 February 2026.
Participants include representatives of competition bodies and government officials from Burkina Faso, professionals from the banking, insurance and pharmaceutical sectors, consumer associations and officials of the WAEMU Commission.
The West Africa component of PACoSPro is a €5 million programme funded by the European Union over 40 months. It aims to improve the business environment, competitiveness and economic growth by strengthening competition.
